Charity is not only a manifestation of kindness and concern for others, but also an opportunity to change the world around you. In Chernihiv, a city with a great cultural heritage, a charity project was implemented by the volunteers and the caring citizens of Chernihiv. This project has proved that the book community can become a leader of positive changes for children who are being treated for serious diseases.
Briefly about the charity project #read_help (#читай_допомагай) in Chernihiv
Anna Halperina and Nataliya Cherevko, Chernihiv residents with a big heart, together came up with and implemented a charitable project, using a rather unusual method – reading books. The essence of their project is for people to read famous literary works on camera and share the video, make a donation and tag their friends and acquaintances on social networks in order to pass the initiative on.
Many residents of Chernihiv and their friends from other cities have responded to the challenge and became participants in this project. Thanks to this charity initiative, a large sum of money has been collected, which has been used to purchase much-needed medical equipment for the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital.
How the necessary equipment has been purchased for the children’s hospital, because of the project #read_help (#читай_допомагай)
The project has received tremendous support from the local community and companies operating in Chernihiv. In total, the sum collected was 871,141 (eight hundred and seventy-one thousand one hundred and forty-one) UAH. This money has been transferred to the Public Organization “Evum” for the purchase of the necessary equipment for the treatment of children fighting cancer in the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital. With these funds, we have purchased the following equipment:
- CytoSpin 4 – UAH 426,500;
- An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for CytoSpin 4 – UAH 1,280;
- 11 functional beds UAH 330,000;
- defibrillator UAH 65,000;
- medical couch UAH 25,600
Here is some information about the purchased equipment: the CytoSpin 4 medical device is a modern device for the detection and diagnosis of oncological diseases. It helps to identify malignant cells in the cerebrospinal fluid in the early stages of the disease. Carrying out a cytospin study is the “gold” standard in the diagnosis of such diseases:
- acute lymphoblastic leukemia;
- non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas;
- sarcoma;
- neuroblastoma;
- medulloblastoma and many other malignant neoplasms.
For many years, the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital has been using manual methods to diagnose cerebrospinal fluid, which significantly increases the likelihood of missing metastases in the brain. That is why the appearance of the modern CytoSpin4 device takes the diagnosis of patients to a completely better level.
The role of volunteers and the reading community in the #read_help (#читай_допомагай) project as a key resource for helping children
Volunteers and active citizens of Chernihiv have gladly joined the charitable initiative #read_help (#читай_допомагай). Their contribution has been crucial to the success of the initiative, which has helped raise such a significant amount of funds.
Going viral with the challenge on social networks was a very creative idea. It has been possible not only to quickly achieve the main goal of the project – fundraising, but also to popularize well-known and not-so-well-known works of Ukrainian literature on the Internet.
How reading and support of the project #read_help (#читай_допомагай) has changed the lives of young patients in Chernihiv
The #read_help (#читай_допомагай) project has not only helped raise funds, but also created reliable support for young patients and gave them hope for recovery. After all, thanks to modern equipment, it has become possible to detect dangerous diseases in the early stages, which allows us to quickly and effectively fight them.
Conclusions
The charity project #read_help (#читай_допомагай) is an example of how a united community can accomplish the impossible. The success story of this project inspires action and reminds us that everyone can change the world by doing good.
The initiative of Anna Halperina and Natalia Cherevko became a real breath of fresh air for the Chernihiv community, and their persistent and creative approach made this project successful. We hope that in the future there will be similar projects and Evum, together with you, will be able to help other medical institutions with the renewal of their medical equipment.
