We would like to share another deeply moving story — about a young boy named Sashko, his fight, and his hope for recovery.
Sashko recently turned 9 years old. He is from the Ivano-Frankivsk region and has a 4-year-old sister, Viktoriia. For a long time, he had been suffering from pain in his leg and back. Doctors began searching for the cause and discovered tumors on his spine.
Sashko underwent a complex surgery that lasted more than eight hours. The procedure required specialized medical consumables, without which the doctors simply could not have performed the operation.
Thanks to the support of UWAA, our team was able to cover the cost of these essential materials, allowing Sashko’s surgery to take place on time and successfully.
With funds provided by donors, the following items were purchased and used during the operation:
- a set for a transpedicular spinal fixation system;
- a Select laryngeal electrode for a tube;
- SDN electrodes 20/2000 made of stainless steel;
- a set of spiral electrodes.
The total cost of the medical supplies amounted to UAH 133,180.
Behind this story lies so much more: the parents’ anxiety, long hours of waiting outside the operating room, the immense responsibility carried by the doctors of the Neurosurgery and Oncology Departments of St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital, and a deep belief that Sashko’s body would overcome this challenge.
And he truly did.
There is still a long road of treatment and rehabilitation ahead, but we are immensely grateful to the doctors for their dedication, strength, and professionalism. We also thank everyone who supports our work — because very often, it is your help that becomes the crucial step enabling doctors to save a child’s life.
Together, we achieve what once seemed impossible — and give children a chance at a new life.
