St. Nicholas Day is a holiday that brings New Year’s mood, gives faith in miracles and makes the heart of every little boy and girl beat faster. The little boy writes letters with cherished wishes, creates drawings and waits… He is waiting for St. Nicholas to visit with greetings on December 19.
Every year we tried to create a holiday on this day, but 2020 turned out to be the most special, because St. Nicholas came to congratulate the children not alone, but together with the patrol police. That day, a whole procession of cars drove into the yard of the hospital with flashing beacons on. People on the street stopped and turned around with surprised faces, and at this moment children’s enthusiastic smiles shone from the windows of the department. The little boy waved his hands and couldn’t believe that all these people in uniforms and in patrol cars had stopped by just to congratulate them on the holiday.
Even the air was different that day. There was a festive atmosphere around, New Year’s decorations were shining and children’s eyes were full of joy. In the corridors of the hospital, despite the gloomy weather, it seemed brighter, and in the heart of every little patient, joy and faith that the next year will be even better settled. The guests brought sweets and gifts with them, but the biggest present for everyone was the attention they gave to the children and their parents.
That is why we do not stop and continue the tradition of greeting small patients with holidays. After all, a holiday should be a holiday even within the walls of the hospital.
