The department of pediatric oncology is a place where the strength of heart and courage of young patients are put to the test, thus, taking care of their physical and emotional state plays an extremely important role.
Thanks to our benefactors, volunteers and the employees of “Baluvana Galya” dumpling factory, Evum held a number of events in the children’s hospital and beyond. This created a warm atmosphere and positive emotions for our little heroes. They could take some time off from fighting the disease and create some happy memories, laughing and enjoying their time.

Master classes and children’s smiles
The following master classes were held:
Decorating gingerbread cookies with colored food-safe paint and icing.
The master class was conducted by our volunteer Olena Michkova. Not only children, but also their mothers and guardians joined the decorating process. At the end of the day, a very delicious tea-party was waiting for everyone, where everyone had the opportunity to taste their hand-made cookies.
The gingerbread cookies decoration master class turned out to be an exciting event for children and their parents. The faces of the little heroes were shining with joy and excitement. Each of them had the opportunity to be creative and draw a funny design on the gingerbread. The gingerbreads painted by the children became a delicious addition to the tea party, and this experience left the most pleasant memories.

Making teddy bears with your own hands.
Craftsmen Yulia Zavada and Halyna Ratnevska taught children and their mothers how to sew toy bears. The children and their mothers/grandmothers were delighted with this type of activity.
The master class on sewing teddy bears actually turned into a festival of colorful bears. Participants chose their favorite colors, and as a result, everyone got their own unique teddy bear.
Such joint creativity improved the mood and brought joy to children, their parents and mentors. All participants were very happy with this collaboration. The children’s mothers also made bears. After this master class, each child not only had warm and pleasant memories of the event, but also a new soft toy, made with their own hands.
Those children who could not join the joint master class, due to their medical procedures, made teddy bears in their ward. After all, when children are immunocompromised, they do not have the opportunity to leave their rooms and communicate with others.
Sculpting dumplings.
This master class was conducted by specialists from the city dumpling factory “Baluvana Galya”. They not only taught the children how to make varenyky (Ukrainian dumplings) in different ways, but also shared a festive dinner with them and their parents. The main dish was the same varenyky with potatoes, made by the children themselves.
The children got the most vivid impressions from the master class on making dumplings, where they acquired culinary skills and immersed themselves in the atmosphere of cooperation with culinary experts from Baluvana Gali.
Each small participant of the event received a certificate from the craftsmen. At the end of the class, the volunteers, parents and their children were treated to a very tasty varenyky dinner.

Improvised cinema hall
In addition to master classes, created through the efforts of our volunteers and sponsors, we were able to delight children and their parents with a movie screening. Caring benefactors gave us a projector and a screen, allowing the children to fully enjoy a movie.
The movie night for children brought a lot of joy. In addition to watching the movies, they ate popcorn, just like in a real movie theater. The children, together with their parents, enjoyed the movie a lot and were able to distract themselves from the routine of inpatient treatment.

A walk in nature
After receiving the permission and support from the doctors, Evum was able to organize a short walk for the children near Desna river. Children walked along the river banks, ate pizza, drank hot chocolate and enjoyed the fresh air.
Such a short walk along the Golden Beach at the Desna riverbank allowed the young patients to enjoy the fresh air outside the hospital walls and communicate with the wild nature, recharging their energy for recovery.
At the end of the walk, children saw ducks with little ducklings. The children were very excited and they rushed to feed the ducks some bread; it was a very touching scene. Such moments of sincere happiness and positive memories remain with the children forever.
We are sure that each of these activities created a positive effect on the emotional state of children, and contributes to speeding up their physical recovery. It is important to have such initiatives to create unique moments of joy and hope for children and to help them feel like full-fledged members of society, despite going through a very difficult time in their lives.
We believe that such projects not only facilitate difficult treatment, but also fill the days of young patients with the light of hope and the warmth of human care. Therefore, we encourage everyone who cares to join our team of volunteers, join the sponsorship of charitable projects and take part in the struggle of little heroes for a fulfilling life in every possible way.
