The stories of children undergoing treatment in the hematology oncology department of the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital (CRCH) leave no one indifferent. Often, a sincere desire to help children in their struggle with the disease can change some realities of life.
A vivid example of such assistance is the story of Larisa Chub Pashchenko’s Project, director of the Chernihiv Development Center “Origami”. She not only came up with an idea to improve the treatment conditions for young patients in CRCH, but also made it a reality.
On Giving Tuesday, Larisa was able to join forces with her Development Center and collected funds to start renovating the infrastructure of the children’s ward.
The money raised by Ms. Larisa, along with donations from sponsorships, was used to purchase special chairs for the hospital’s playroom. The seats can be easily unfolded and adjusted to the most comfortable position for small patients.
In these chairs, children can not only sit comfortably, but also almost lie down. This is especially important in cases when the child has to lie down for IV drips. The comfortable position in the chair allows our small patients to enjoy watching the TV and play games while undergoing the required medical procedures.
Currently, due to the implementation of Larisa’s initiative, the children’s ward has become even more comfortable and cozy for the children who are being treated here. In addition, thanks to the support of Mrs. Larisa and her Development Center, within the framework of the project, a TV set and a game console were installed in the playroom. Now, children together with their parents can have fun and relieve psychological tension in the playroom, which has all the necessities.
Moreover, the help of the Origami Center was not limited to chairs and gifts for the playroom. Mrs. Larisa also undertook the mission of creating and equipping a sports room for children who are struggling with serious illnesses. And as part of the “Giving Tuesday” project, a treadmill was purchased. Subsequently, with the funds of benefactors, an exercise bike, a Swedish wall and two special children’s sports equipment were purchased to be placed in the sports room.
Each of these elements is important for the rehabilitation of the physical and the emotional state of children. Now they can not only receive the treatment they need, but also engage in physical activity that allows them to regain strength and energy to overcome the disease and recover. Parents, who are in the ward with their children, can also use some of the sports equipment.
Larisa Chub’s project has become an important stage in the development of the children’s department of oncology and hematology. This project, once again, has proven that when caring people unite to achieve a common good goal, they will always succeed.
Even difficult trials in life such as cancer treatment are much easier to bear for both adults and children, when such treatments are combined with the love, support and care of the people around them. This project shows how one person can change the lives of many, give hope to children, and bring to life ideas and projects that have been long overdue.
We sincerely thank Mrs. Larisa and all our benefactors for their care and kindness!
