Saint Nicholas Day is a special holiday that marks the beginning of New Year’s celebrations and entertainment. For children undergoing cancer treatment, it is primarily associated with receiving gifts from the Ukrainian miracle worker. Every year during this holiday, Evum, with the help of every person who cares about this event, celebrates young patients of the Department of Pediatric Oncology Hematology, through the donations of our sponsors and volunteers
Every year, the Patrol Police of the Chernihiv region takes part in celebrating the children. It has become a beautiful tradition for patrolmen together with “St. Nicholas” to give special presents to children in honor of the holiday.
However, this year the COVID-19 pandemic has made adjustments to the celebration. After all, immunocompromised children undergoing intensive chemotherapy courses are most vulnerable to this insidious disease, because their immunity is weakened by medical procedures.
Therefore, this year the holiday took place under the windows of the hematological oncology department, as small patients could not have direct contact with others, in order to protect them from being infected with the virus. The patrol police of the Chernihiv region also took part in this charity event. The police gave presents and congratulated young patients; they also put up a small performance under the windows of the children’s ward.
The policemen impressed the children with their refined appearance and original performances. They parked in front of the ward’s windows and formed a line of special patrol cars.
The performance of the special unit created an unforgettable memory for the children and made them a little happier. A nice surprise was that one of the policemen dressed up as a life-size White Bear, and joined the festive event a little later, dancing and greeting each child. We would like to thank Julia Pisarenko for the holiday atmosphere that she created with her characters and her Holiday Studio.
HAppy moments and memories remained with the children not only from the impromptu concert under the windows, but also from the interesting gifts that were gifted and delivered by the medical staff of the hospital. Each little patient received an authentic police cap, a bottle with the police logo and some reflective accessories. For our little fighters, it became not only a festive surprise, but also a symbol of care and support.
Despite the obstacles caused by the virus, St. Nicholas Day in the Children’s Oncology Department together with the Patrol Police of the Chernihiv region was incredibly joyful and fun. Such moments of joy and support really inspire not only children, but also the whole community to participate in charitable initiatives.
The Evum team is sincerely grateful to the employees of the Patrol Police of the Chernihiv region for their contribution to creating joyful moments in the lives of young patients fighting a serious illness!
We hope that there will be more of such initiatives in the future and that other state bodies and public organizations will join us in order to create feelings of joy, care and love for children who are being treated!
