Every day, thousands of young patients in oncology departments fight for their lives, and helping them are their parents, doctors, nurses, and volunteers. This is especially difficult in cases where the struggle and treatment last for months or years. Such children are forced to grow up very quickly and take life much more seriously than most adults.
The oncology department of the Lviv St. Nicholas Hospital, which is cared for by the public organization “EVUM”, receives children of all ages, each with their own treatment terms and diagnosis. Some have stable indicators, while there are difficult cases of children, who need careful monitoring and supervision. Today, twenty-two children can be located simultaneously in the oncology department at this hospital. The staff’s focus on patients is one of the main values of the department.
For better control and observation of difficult cases, we bought vital activity monitors with different sensors for the ward, as well as portable baskets for these monitors during patient transport.
A central station was installed at the nurse’s post, which collects data from all monitors in the children’s rooms. Combining monitors into a single network provides the possibility of continuous data transmission to the nursing station. Now the nurse on duty will be able to monitor the indicators of difficult children and respond more quickly to critical situations. In addition, doctors can access the necessary information on their smartphones, PCs or in the form of a printed report.
Vitality monitors in each room are vital for the pediatric oncology department, where children undergo long-term treatment and may have to return to the ward more than once even after the completion of their treatment. All this became possible thanks to our friends and powerful partners LandsAid e.V., because they allocated funds for this entire project. In total, 12 monitors produced by the Ukrainian manufacturer Yutas were purchased for the amount of UAH 1,786,814.40. We received the UNET-S central station worth UAH 128,400 as a gift from the Yutas company, as well.
Our entire team, parents, children and all the branch staff are very grateful to LandsAid e.V. Association! Your help cannot be overestimated! Cancer is not a life-sentence. Judgment is human indifference. Caring for children with cancer begins not with pathetic speeches, but with concrete actions. So a big “thank you” to our benefactors LandsAid e. V, who, even in difficult times, help fight for the life of every child and bring closer the most desired miracle – a chance for recovery!
