The small box in the photo, with a cord and a tablet, costs as much as a car — though when you pick it up, hardly anyone would guess it’s a portable ultrasound digital scanner. Thanks to our friends and partners, we were able to purchase a mobile ultrasound device and deliver it to the oncology department of the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv.
A portable ultrasound scanner is a compact medical device for ultrasonic diagnostics. The mobile ultrasound device works just like a stationary ultrasound scanner but is small in size and can be easily carried by doctors. In fact, many doctors dream of having such equipment in their department because it speeds up diagnostics and reduces response time in various situations.
What does the device do?
The machine creates images of internal organs and tissues using ultrasonic waves. The doctor uses a special probe that transmits a signal and receives the reflected echo, and the device converts this into an image on the screen.
Why is a portable ultrasound useful?
- Mobility: It can be taken to the ward, intensive care unit, outpatient examinations, or even field conditions.
- Rapid diagnostics: It allows for immediate examination of the patient right on the spot, without the need for transportation.
- Particularly important in pediatrics and oncohematology, where frequent and delicate examinations are required.
The portable ultrasound device purchased by Evum is already helping doctors in the oncology department of St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in their daily work.
We would like to note that acquiring such expensive equipment for the hospital became possible thanks to the sponsors, volunteers, and friends of the Evum team — we are sincerely grateful to them for their support, trust, and compassion.
Special thanks to those whose efforts and help made it possible for the portable ultrasound machine to already be in use for treating children with cancer:
- Kastenhofer Hans;
- IT company EPAM @epam_ukraine
- YBC (young.business.club) and Volodymyr Triebeltsky;
- UWAA (Ukrainian Women’s Association of America);
And we are not stopping — we continue working to support and speed up the recovery of children undergoing treatment for serious illnesses.
We invite everyone who cares to join our team of volunteers and sponsors, because many more charitable projects await us ahead, which we can bring to life, including with your help.
