In 2024, Evum began collaborating with two new partners from Germany. The first is the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), with campuses in Kiel and Lübeck — one of the largest medical centers in Europe. The second is Rotary Club Kiel (RC Kiel), a local chapter of the international charitable organization Rotary International, founded in 1932 in Kiel and one of the oldest clubs in Germany.

Throughout 2024, thanks to our friends from Germany, we were able to obtain critically needed medical equipment for two hospitals we have long been supporting: the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv and the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital. Now, we will tell you in more details about this charitable contribution from our German partners and its benefits.

First, it should be noted that many people from Germany and Ukraine joined the initiative, and thanks to their efforts, the project was brought to life. This includes staff from the German medical facility in Kiel as well as ordinary volunteers from Rotary Club who participated in fundraising and purchasing the necessary equipment.

Second, the procurement and transfer of medical equipment took place in three stages, during each of which we felt significant support from our German friends and Ukrainian partners. In particular, the Lviv People’s Self-Defense and Nova Poshta helped with logistics and delivery of the equipment, respectively — for which they deserve special thanks from all the children undergoing treatment and the Evum team.

Third, and most importantly: what exactly we purchased and for which purposes in the two hospitals:

  • Digital microscope Carl Zeiss AG — already in operation at the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv in the oncology department, helping medical staff perform complex medical examinations.
  • BBraun infusion pumps — modern medical devices for precise and controlled administration of fluids into the patient’s body. They deliver fluids at a precisely set speed, volume, and rhythm. The device monitors the process itself and can sound an alarm if air enters the system, there is a blockage, or the medication runs out. Received by the hematology department of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital and the oncology department of St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv.
  • Medical refrigerator — for storing medications and medical biomaterials, including those for donor use; received by the hematology department of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital.
  • Surgical lighting — modern operating room lighting systems; received by the hematology department of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital and the oncology department of St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv.
  • Blood warmer — a medical device that heats blood, plasma, and infusion solutions to a safe temperature before administration to the patient. Its main function is to prevent hypothermia and related complications. Received by the hematology department of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital.
  • Medical couches — modern automated medical beds, comfortable and specially adapted for children. Received by the hematology department for the procedure room and Day Hospital of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital.
  • Medical furniture for the procedure room; received by the hematology department of Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital.

Thus, thanks to our friends and partners from Germany and Ukraine, we were able to update the medical equipment in two children’s hospitals, significantly improve treatment conditions for young patients, and give them support and hope for recovery.

Once again, we want to thank our new and long-standing partners and friends of Evum for their compassion, help, and support of our healthcare system during these difficult times:

  • University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and Rotary Club Kiel (RC Kiel) — for sponsorship and assistance in purchasing medical equipment;
  • Nova Poshta company — for delivering medical equipment across Ukraine despite all the challenges of wartime;
  • Lviv People’s Self-Defense — for support and logistics organization.

Special thanks go to Professor Dr. Dieter Kabelitz from UKSH and Hryhoriy Lapshyn, who assisted with equipment selection, communication, and overall made a significant contribution to the implementation of this charitable project and the treatment of children in Ukraine.

Overall, the Evum team and the organization’s volunteers are sincerely grateful to all our partners for these festive feelings when we unpack new equipment from boxes — as if Christmas came in the middle of summer.

For us, this truly marks the beginning of a new period — a year of hope for better times. But medical equipment does not treat it on its own; people do. Now, all of this is in the hands of professional medical staff — those who can help children recover and overcome their illness!
